Your Travel Experience with ARRIVAL
Day 1
ARRIVAL
After a jaw-dropping journey into Glenorchy, a warm welcome from Liz and Doug is the cherry on top of the cake. And this is just the beginning. After hugs are exchanged and grand tours are done, settle into your private alpine hut. Take in the timber walls, take note of the colour pairings (hello, home decor inspo), breathe in the scent of woodsmoke and feel your body relax into the rhythms of mountain living. As evening falls, join fellow travellers for a long-table dinner prepared entirely over open flames. Candlelight flickers, easy chatter fills the air and the pace of life slows beautifully.
Day 1 - 2
The Great Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp
A luxurious spin on the classic backcountry hut. Fire-warmed timber, thick wool blankets and design-led back to basics living. Facilities are communal but premium – think private showers lined with Timaru bluestone, endless hot water and bathroom products that you’ll be taking down the name of.
Day 2 - 3
Alpine glamping tent
Your private glamp is a heavy canvas expedition tent, pre-set in a remote alpine location and warmed by a wood-burning stove. It includes comfortable bedding, rugs, and space to relax. The camp set up includes a separate toilet tent, as well as private tents for your guide and cook.
Day 3 - 4
The Great Glenorchy Alpine Base Camp
A luxurious spin on the classic backcountry hut. Fire-warmed timber, thick wool blankets and design-led back to basics living. Facilities are communal but premium – think private showers lined with Timaru bluestone, endless hot water and bathroom products that you’ll be taking down the name of.
Day 1
Base Camp Welcome
Set on Glenorchy’s ‘main road’ into town – there’s only really one – Base Camp’s butter yellow doors and falcon-guarded frontage set the tone for the delights that lie within. This is a backcountry base that doesn’t scrimp on style and certainly knows how to have fun. Owners Doug and Liz will put you at ease instantly and your wood-fire-heated hut will quickly have your heart.
Candlelit Dinners
Dinners are a communal affair at Base Camp. Think long tables, cast iron pots laid down that contain fire-cooked delights and big spoons designed for easy sharing. Wine flows as freely as the conversation (opt in at extra cost for this), the fire crackles in the background and these strangers you’re sat with soon become good friends. Because if you’re all at Base Camp, you have at least one thing in common: good taste.
Day 2
Helicopter into the Wild
It’s safe to say that any experience that starts with a helicopter ride is going to be a memorable one and this is no different. Launch into New Zealand’s UNESCO World Heritage backcountry and soak it all in. The Southern Alps are great for perspective, in scenery like this it’s hard not to feel gloriously small.
Remote Glamping Experience
This is glamping redefined. Think: you, the mountains, the stars and your own private guide and chef. The heavy canvas expedition tent is kept warm by a wood-burning stove and is stylishly decked out in line with the rustic setting. The fact that it’s only accessible by helicopter says it all.
Guided Alpine Hiking
New Zealand’s wilderness is enough to inspire even the most languid of people to lace up their hiking boots. Take full advantage of the fact that you have a mountaineering guide on tap and get out there. Gentle stroll or challenging climb – they’ll cater to your level.
Fire-Cooked Camp Meals
Hot soup that warms your heart as it goes down, fresh bread that is just the right balance of crust and squish, cowboy coffee that’s best taken black and hearty dinners rounded off with a healthy helping of dessert. Outdoor living calls for fuel and the Base Camp team know how to deliver.
Stargazing
New Zealand’s Dark Sky Reserves are world-renowned for a reason. Spotting the Southern Cross and mapping the Milky Way is easy out here. No light pollution, just you and the sparkling sky.
Day 3
Base Camp
The helicopter ride back to Base Camp is just as breathtaking as the one that you took from there – but this time, you’re more connected to the land. Its magnitude is somehow that much more impressive now.
Candlelit Dinner
A finale feast is bittersweet. Although your time here’s been short, Base Camp feels like a home away from home. Cheers to adventure and see out the night toasting marshmallows over the open fire.
Day 4
Departure
No alarms. Just a slow start and one last breakfast spread. Laze in your hut, opt in for a sauna, or sip your tea with sun on your face, mountain air in your lungs. When you're ready, depart from Glenorchy back to the bustle of Queenstown and line up for a Ferg.
