Kogakuro Ryokan

Three minutes from the ski lift at Akakura Onsen Ski Resort and right in the heart of Akakura Onsen village, Kogakuro is a warm family-run ryokan that offers the most authentically Japanese base available in the Myoko area. Spacious traditional tatami rooms with futon bedding and Western twin rooms also available. Select rooms include private en-suite bathrooms. A beautiful outdoor onsen surrounded by snow in winter. A cosy indoor lounge with a fireplace. An on-site restaurant and bar for the nights when nobody wants to go further. And the whole of Akakura Onsen village, with local restaurants, bars and shops, steps from the front door. Warm hospitality, genuine local character and great value. The kind of place that makes a ski week feel like a proper Japanese experience. Room types: Twin Room and Japanese Room. Confirm your group size and configuration when you submit your quote request. Facilities: On-site restaurant, bar, free WiFi, outdoor onsen, fireplace lounge.

Day 6

Exploring Akakura Onsen Village (Encouraged)

Off the mountain, Akakura Onsen village is steps from the ryokan and has everything you need and nothing that feels unnecessary. Convenience stores stocked better than most supermarkets. Ramen spots with six seats and a chef who's been making the same broth for twenty years. Izakayas where you point at things and they're always good. A few bars that get livelier than they look from the outside. Wander without a plan.

Day 7

Onsen Sessions: On-Site and Beyond (Encouraged)

The outdoor onsen is right on site at Kogakuro, no research, no travel, just straight in after the mountain. Surrounded by snow in winter and genuinely unlike anything you'll find at a standard ski hotel. Myoko Kogen also has several onsens across the broader valley worth exploring throughout the week. Slide into water hot enough to revive your body for the next day, stare at the steam rising into the cold mountain air. One of the non-negotiable parts of any Japan ski week. ARRIVAL will point you toward the best ones before you arrive

Day 8

Departure

You'll leave with tired legs, likely a few new friends and that post-trip haze where normal life feels deeply unmotivating. That's the Myoko effect.
